The Church in Pergamum

In this sermon, Keith Miller walks through Revelation 2:12–17 and Jesus’ letter to the church in Pergamum—a city Jesus calls the place “where Satan’s throne is.” Pergamum was a center of political power, pagan and worship devotion, where allegiance to Jesus came at a cost. Yet even there, Christ’s people held fast to His name, and Antipas remained faithful unto death.

But Jesus also warns the church about a greater danger rising from within: the teachings of Balaam and the Nicolaitans. These teachings encouraged compromise, idolatry, sexual immorality, and the idea that God’s grace permits what God’s Word clearly forbids. Pergamum reminds us that persecution may wound the church, but compromise can hollow it out.
